After my recent stay at La Marette Gites I felt compelled to leave a review. The area is truly beautiful, remote enough to enjoy "rustic" French living but close enough to a lot of fantastic towns, I enjoyed Galettes,& Crepes (with the local Cider) in Dinan and from there popped down to the picturesque Lehon.

The next day, with beautiful weather, I headed for the beach at Saint-Cast-le-Guido, plenty of restaurants to choose from, found a spot down at the harbour for the most enormous bowl of Moules with the obligatory frites and then went for an apres dejeuner stroll along Pen Guen, one of Saint-Cast's fabulous beaches.

Returning to La Marette in the evening for a delicious "Plat du Jour" prepared by Sarah and delivered to your gite ready for you to enjoy with a glass of wine overlooking the extensive gardens.

La Marette is perfect for a weekend break and easily accessible, thank you.

After an easy 30-40 minute drive from Dinard airport we received a lovely welcome from Sarah at La Marette Gites. A quick tour of the clean, comfortable and wonderfully characterful Thyme Cottage and we felt right at home. Whilst having a few ideas of what we wanted to do, Sarah also gave us a few suggestions of places to go which allowed us to put together a perfect little itinerary.

My boyfriend and I like to be active so our first day was a 20km walk around nearby Jugon-les-Lacs. There was a little boulangerie in the village which made lovely sandwiches and gave us the necessary sustenance to keep us going! This was very helpful tip from Sarah.

For the balance of our 4 night, 5 day stay we pootled up to the northern coast for a nice lunch at Saint Cast Le Guido where we sampled the local specialty of galettes (savoury crepes). Another day we had a lovely wander around Dinan town followed by lunch down by the river and then rented some bikes for a leisurely cycle along the river. We have an evening flight on our last day which gave us time to go to Mont St Michel followed by lunch in Cancale where oysters are on every menu!

La Marette offered a perfect location to take in all off the above activities but then a wonderfully peaceful spot to also just sit and read and enjoy good food! Sarah is a splendid chef and we sampled a few of her dishes and would recommend them all!

Thank you for such a great few days, I was thoroughly relaxed upon my return to London and would highly recommend a visit.

Myself and my husband have travelled quite extensively and stayed in all manner of places so we would be fairly critical and have high expectations in general but even more so on this our maiden voyage to France with our little baby …. and, our stay at La Marette gites in April 2013 was simply superb and didn’t disappoint.

We honestly couldn’t fault anything significant and we have gone away with fond memories. The one bedroom gite (but there are bigger ones on the site) “Parsley cottage” was more than enough space for the three of us and was a very competitive price for what you got. A high quality beautifully restored farm outhouse with exposed beams and lots of cute and quirky features; it had plenty of charm which was not lost amongst the modern conveniences, and storage spots throughout the property. In addition it had an extremely well kitted out kitchen and the most comfortable double bed. Best night’s sleep for ages were had there!!, and that’s saying something with a little baby We felt right at home and easily relaxed into our holiday stay here.

The property was spotlessly clean. The baby cot provided was perfect. The roll top bath was a luxurious feature even if it was a little tricky to have a shower, it was enjoyable to use. And if you take care not to bump your head of the wonderful beams when wandering in the dark of the night, you will do just fine.

Owner and host Sarah was really great to deal with during our booking and from arrival to departure she was on hand and extremely helpful with local tips and so on, oh she is brilliant chef to boot! She cooked for us for two of our nights, yum. It was very welcome to have that service because of our young baby so without exaggeration it felt like a home away from home (and no, we don’t have our own chef at home, only me, you know what I mean!! ).

The location was brilliant for us; The gated La Marette farm is not far from the motorway and larger roads it is nestled in the middle of active beautiful farmlands. As we were the last section in the property the view from our couch was unspoilt and was of a lovely quaint grassy area with beautiful trees that were just coming into their own and loads of birds. Great for kids to play in although ours isn’t walking yet. Overall a nature lover’s haven and a real place to unwind and experience a little piece of French country life. We visited Dinan and Mont Saint Michel while here. They are not on the door step but still not far at all, very doable. The hinterland and villages also had some real charm about them so don’t ignore them, and the village of Caulnes has everything you could need. We spoilt ourselves and visited boulangerie in the village a lot of times.

We aim to stay here again, but perhaps this time in the summer months. We didn’t time things well with the weather in April and we certainly will recommend this property to others. There are other cottages of varying sizes but similar quality on the site so a large family, or group of friends with kids could easily be catered for I would think in this gated farm.

Thank you - Ciara, Wicklow
